FlashingHobo At SouthbankIf you’ve ever walked down London’s South Bank underneath the twisting concrete walkways of the National Film Theatre then you must have seen the skateboarders. Well so have we and we cornered one called Matt for a quick Q&A.
Q. So Matt, how often do you come here to skate? A. About two or three times a week. Q. How many regular skaters would you say there were down here A. I’d say around about twenty or thirty. Q. And do where do they come from? A. Oh, from all over London! Q. What’s the age range of the skaters down here? A. I’d say about from as young as eight years old to thirty-five. Q. Are there any girls? A. Well a few but really it’s mostly boys. Q. Do you get moved on by the police at all? A. No they don’t give us any bother really. Q. We’ve been stood watching you lot for about half an hour, there seems to be a lot of body to concrete interfaces, are there many serious accidents? A. No, no more than anywhere else.
Q. I see there’s a lot of BMX bikes down here too, do people use both. A. No, people tend to stick to one or the other. Q. What do you think of the new Micro scooters, which seem to be all over the place right now? A. Very gay! Q. So nobody here uses them? A. Definitely not! And with that Matt skated off back to the action, whilst I rode my MICROSCOOTER back to HOBO towers.
