I was stumbling around the net the other day looking for a pair of Air Jordan XVI when I found Katie Jordon. She's a musician, actress, model and artist. I figured that anyone who had starred in a film called Erotic Witch II had to have something interesting to say...
You were born in Transylvania, how did you end up in America? My Dad was over there for work purposes, he worked for the government as a diplomat. I was born early; I was almost 2 and half months early. They had originally planned on being here for my birth but fate had a different idea. I don't remember much, except the farm animals. We moved here when I was four, and I have been in the States since.
Growing up without TV is totally alien to me, what did you do instead? I used my brain, all the time. I did allot of things, I read allot of books, my mother used to drop me off at the library for hours on end, day after day after day. There I began reading books on art, fashion, NYC, sex, music, history and allot of magazines. Then I would play outside we lived in the middle of nowhere and I would create little hideouts in the woods, and build things. When I was eleven my parents got a computer and then it was all over, I remember when the internet was nothing more then prodigy and hacking. I was very creative from a young age; I was always entering art contest as well as doing musicals and acting. I did everything; it would be easier to list what I didn't do.
Did other kids give you a hard time about it? All the time, I never went to school so it was the kids at church, I never fit in, and they used to torment me. I dealt with it, I lived in my own little world I really didn't like there world anyways.
Have you ever even seen Knight Rider? No
Did you find home schooling lead to isolation? Most of the friends I had when I was younger were people I met through school. Isolation from people my own age, I was always around adults, music teachers, dance teachers, theater teachers and my parents. I never could find friends but I had a few, I always had little boyfriends. When I was 13 I meet my best friend and ever since I have had tons of friends. Then I got into modeling and the friends increased and I always had people around. Some I wouldn't say where friends but I wasn't alone allot after the age of say 15. Most my friends I meet at coffee shops, or through work.
Your parents tried to keep you away from nasty web sites when you were younger, did it just make you more curious as to what might be on them? My parent tried to do everything to shelter me, and I wish they could have because I am like a cat and I have always been likely to stick my nose into everything. I like to learn by experience. I got to them, but I already knew what I would find. Nothing shocked me, I remember finding dirty magazines outside in the backyard when I was 7 or so. Ever since then it didn't matter.
Does it bother you that success in modeling is dependent on what people want to look at, rather than skills that you might have? I think I am a bit different from the norm, if you go the agency route it is more and more dependent on looks. I went the personality route, I got allot of my work because of the fact I showed my personality
Do you make an effort to keep yourself looking good for your modeling or is it just something that you do? Are you ever tempted just to slob out and eat chips with cheese? (Chips are like hardcore English french fries.) No if anything I don't eat enough, my mom was always trying to feed me. I like tea and coffee and juice and fruit and things like that. I did allot of research on stuff like why everyone is dying from cancer in the states.... If I binge it is with Ice Cream and or Sushi.
Where do you draw the line for what you will pose for, and why have you drawn it there? I was never a believer in lines, I do have a few, and I don't pose with men except once in a blue moon, if it is for something like a catalogue or sometimes a kissing scene in a movie. The whole reason I keep my distance is because I hope to someday find someone to share my life with. I guess I am old fashioned in a few aspects.
What bands have influenced your music? I have so many, at first it was Beethoven and New
age super trance, Debussy and Chopin had some influence as well. Then I moved
into the music such as NIN, Portishead, Massive Attack, and Tricky. Enigma,
Bjork, Depeche Mode, U2, then I got into dance music, I was into Paul Van Dyke,
Sasha & Digweed, Hybrid, Nick Warren, Jam & Spoon, Slacker, I at the
same time started exploring other countries music, the spiritual music of India,
Celtic and so on. I just recently got into Jazz. I can go on and on, Garbage,
Radio Head, and so forth. But I have music in my head all the time
Does your modeling background stop people taking your musical ambition seriously? Honestly, I don't know and I don't really get to hung up on it. I used to the fact I could model so that I could build a studio so that it wouldn't matter because I have the tools to do what the big studio do and I don't have to worry about things like being taken seriously. I believe the music speaks for itself and if people don't get past the face and some nudity, so be it.
Does it get you down that people who perform their own music can't get record deals but people who don't even write there own tunes can get millions of dollars to piss away on promo videos? Yes, its all about Sex.... and looks, if your pretty the doors with open, quicker then if your talented or if you can write music. The ones who aren't so pretty have to fight, but I think the fight is better then being an industry puppet. Soulless music is dead music, and I would rather be unknown expect to a small group of people then to write soulless music.
Do you think MP3 is a tool for empowering musicians to release whatever sort of music they want, or a tool to allow cheeky bandits to steal music and bankrupt Metallica? I think MP3's are changing music and will change the industry if people don't back down. I go out and buy the cds, if I really like the artist, and think about all the people who don't have much money that can now listen to music for free. We use mp3.com because it is easy, we make some money. But people can hear it, and you know what it is great for new artist. Metallica needs to count there blessings, they are rolling in money, and chances are the only reason they are throwing such a fit is for the publicity of it.
Do you get anything out of a relationship with a woman that you don't get out of a relationship with a man or does it just depend on the person? It depends on the person
You seem to be leading an accelerated life, moving out of home at 16, doing a lot of traveling and the sort of things that old folk get up to. Are you worried that you'll run out of stuff to do? No because the list I have is so long it is insane. There are so many things I want to do. I never run out of ideas.
Do you like England, what's it like compared to USA? England has a better nightlife, and the clothes and music are better. The states have their good points, nice roads, slack policemen and some cool underground places.... I like everywhere for different reasons, I tend to see the same thing, airport, hotel, dinner, club, shoot, studio, airplane, car, train, ect. I don't get to explore allot because I work all the time. I love the ocean, and I love the beach.....
What do you do on a good night out? I don't remember I used to get to raves, clubs, galleries, private parties, and now I just try to sleep..........
What's the most important piece of advice you could give to the HoBo readers? Don't let the I cant or I am not good enough mind set prevent you from doing what you want to do. Raymond Kehoe! Links and Pictures have had to be removed for legal reasons. |
