1. Firstly, how are you all and where are you at the moment?
Both eyes are puffy and we've been rocking like Baby-corn.
2. Howšs the tour gone? (I saw you at the Boat Club in Nottingham and it was amazing!)
Tour was good, we drank a lot of milk.
3. I was expecting more teething problems with the analogue keys you use. How much is the live show dependent on old kit and does its reliability shape the performance?
Teething problems is not a very good term seeing as most of our kit would be needing false teeth at this time in their lives. Usually it's the audience that fuck with our stuff - grab it, lick it, break it, chew it up and spit it back.
4. Any synth related accidents lately ?... (it looked like Ann was trying to spear various audience members with the theremin aerial...)
Yes, we've had 38 synth accidents in four days in one kingdom.
5. The new album; Add Insult To Injury has more vocal content than Avant Hard. Is this going to be more of a feature on future releases?
Don't know - can't say - will see next spring - country and western analogue.
6. The Stooges cover you played in Nottingham seemed to fit into the bands agenda perfectly. (great way to end the set!!) How much of an influence has Punk had on you?

7. A friend of mine whošd never seen you before thought you sounded (in a positive way) how a Russ Meyer film looked. What kind of images do you have in mind when putting tracks together?
Slugs on bikes, salt, lexical synthesthesia in general.
8. Ever attempted to do a hand-stand on top of the Arp 2600?
No, but I've taken it up the arse on a double decker.
9. Is Mute a good home for ADD N TO (X) ?
It keeps us off the streets.
10. For the B-sides on the new single 'The Poker Roll', youšve collaborated with Jon Spencer. What was it like working with him and are there any further collaborations planned (with any other mute artists)?
Jon Spencer was our second choice after Captain Beefheart declined, Beef only paints nowadays. We did a tour with JSBE and they came onstage with us and did King Wasp and ever since then we've wanted to do stuff with him. Have you heard Russell Simmins' (JSBE drummer) solo stuff? - 10/10
11. In the sleeve notes for Add Insult To Injury it lists that Barry recorded his tracks separately to the rest of the band. What was the reasoning behind this?
That is liable, we wrote everything together in a pig pen on holiday in Dorset.
12. Most of your albums have featured an instalment in the sinister Black Regent saga. Youšve killed him off on Add Insult To Injury. Will he be reincarnated for the next album?
We will have an exorcism if he returns.
13. I'd heard you were planning a Synth Duel event at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Any more details yet?
We've done it, you missed it.
14. I'd love to see a documentary about the band. Has anybody approached you to make one yet?
People don't ask, they just do.
15. Do you have three pieces of advice for the Hobo readers?
i) Love animals but in a nice way
ii) Don't eat your own shit
iii) Don't eat other people's shit
